A.R.T. to Premiere Retrop Productions' CLUBLAND: THE MONSTER POP PARTY, 4/11-12

Retrop Productions has announced the premiere of AnDrew Barret Cox's CLUBLAND: The Monster Pop Party at The American Repertory Theatre's Oberon from April 11-12.

Based on the book "Party Monster" by James St. James, CLUBLAND dives into the extravagant lifestyle of ClubKids (ambassadors of the drug-induced dancehall culture that made headlines in the early 1990s). The events and characters of CLUBLAND mirror real-life Club Kids Michael Alig, James St. James, and the murder of Andre "Angel" Melendez.

CLUBLAND will be directed by Jacob S. Porter. The production features Costume Design by Haley Vigil, and Lighting Design by Grayson Breen.

Featuring the unique book, music and lyrics of AnDrew Barret Cox, CLUBLAND is a wholly immersive experience that truly comes alive in a venue like Oberon. Oberon is the A.R.T.'s Second Stage, a destination for theater and nightlife on the fringe of Harvard Square. In addition to offering work from the A.R.T's main season, Oberon is also a thriving incubator for emerging artists to imagine new projects that could only exist in this exciting club theater environment. CLUBLAND re-launched the Oberon's New Works Series and quickly became a much anticipated production.

James St. James, Los Angeles personality and author of Disco Bloodbath (aka Party Monster) says, "It has always been my dream to see my book be made into either a big Broadway musical or a Saturday morning cartoon. Jacob and Andrew are going to make one of those dreams come true!"

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign CLUBLAND will have a limited run beginning April 10th. More information can be found HERE.

Tickets for Clubland begin at $15, and are available for purchase online beginning February 25th. The performance schedule for CLUBLAND is as follows: April 11 at 9pm, and April 12 at 9pm and 11pm.

CLUBLAND has been created with special permission by James St. James.

AnDrew Barret Cox (Book, Music, Lyrics and Choreography) is a musician, choreographer and performer currently based out of the New England area. He is most well versed in rock and pop music. but he also enjoys exploring different musical styles. By the age of 17, Andrew had already created an original concert series featuring innovative music and choreography (specialty in street jazz). Some of his written works include "Pokemon: The 90's Rock Show", "Visions", "Heartsongs: A Song Cycle", and "Damion". Andrew also recently directed a production of "Brooklyn" at Emerson College, in association with Friends of Boston's Homeless. In the future, Andrew hopes to pursue a career in Los Angeles as a working writer.( www.andrewbarretcox.com)

Jacob S. Porter (Producer/Director): founded Retrop Productions, a company focused on the development of new musicals, in the summer of 2011. In the same year he teamed up with Grammy Award winning record label Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records and Emerson College's Rareworks Theater Company to produce a new musical, DARLING at Emerson College. Jacob reenergized student theater at Emerson College, by introducing a new model of collaborating with established student organizations to present professional productions and experiences to the greater college community. In addition to producing and developing new musicals, he has directed several productions including Dear Edwina and It's A Bird It's A Plane It's Superman! Jacob has spent the past several months working at SpotCo, an international entertainment ad agency in NYC. "Collaboration with intelligent, passionate, driven people is the key to success. Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success." -Henry Ford. (www.retropproductions.com)
