Huntington's PRELUDE TO A KISS Closes 6/13

Huntington Theatre Company presents Craig Lucas' PRELUDE TO A KISS, which will run from May 14 through June 13.

A whirlwind romance. A storybook wedding. A kiss for the bride that suddenly changes everything. Craig Lucas (THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, LONGTIME COMPANION) explores the enduring power of love and the nature of commitment in this breathtaking and life-affirming comedy directed by Artistic Director Peter DuBois.

The cast will feature Brian Sgambati (Peter), Cassie Beck (Rita), and MacIntyre Dixon (the Old Man), with Nancy E. Carroll (Mrs. Boyle), Ken Cheeseman (Uncle Fred), Jason Bowen, Ted Hewlett, Timothy John Smith, and Cheryl McMahon.

The creative will feature scenic design by Scott Bradley, costume design by Elizabeth Hope Clancy, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, and composition and sound design by David Remedios.

Craig Lucas is the author of MISSING PERSONS, BLUE WINDOW, RECKLESS, GOD'S HEART, THE DYING GAUL, STRANGER, SMALL TRAGEDY, THE SINGING FOREST, and PRAYER FOR MY ENEMY. He wrote the book for the musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (music and lyrics by Adam Guettel). His screenplays include "Longtime Companion" (Sundance Audience Award), "The Secret Lives of Dentists" (New York Film Critics Best Screenplay Award), "Prelude to a Kiss," "Reckless," "Blue Window," and "The Dying Gaul," which he also directed. On stage he directed Harry Kondoleon's SAVED OR DESTROYED (Obie Award for Best Director) and PLAY YOURSELF, well as his own play THIS THING OF DARKNES (co-authored with David Schulner). With director Norman René he created MARRY ME A LITTLE: SONGS BY Stephen Sondheim, and he wrote the musical play THREE POSTCARDS (composer/lyricist Craig Carnelia) and the libretto for the opera ORPHEUS IN LOVE (composer Gerald Busby). Recently he adapted Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA and THREE SISTERS and Strindberg's MISS JULIE and in new English versions. Twice nominated for a Tony (for PRELUDE TO A KISS and THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA), he won the American Theater Critics/Steinberg Award for Best American Play (THE SINGING FOREST), L.A. Peter DuBois is now in his second season as Artistic Director of the Huntington Theatre Company, during which he will direct Gina Gionfriddo's 2008 Pulitzer Prize finalist Becky Shaw and Craig Lucas' PRELUDE TO A KISS. During his inaugural season, he directed the world premiere of David Grimm's THE MIRACLE AT NAPLES. Prior to arriving at the Huntington, he served for five years as a director, associate producer, and resident director at The Public Theater, preceded by five years the artistic director of the Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Alaska. He most recently directed an acclaimed Off Broadway production of Gionfriddo's Becky Shaw at Second Stage Theatre after directing its world premiere at The Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville. His Public Theater directing credits include Bob Glaudini's JACK GOES BOATING with Philip Seymour Hoffman (The New York Times Critics' Pick) and Glaudini's A VIEW FROM 151ST ST.
