MIT Musical Theatre Guild Presents URINETOWN, 4/27-5/5

The MIT Musical Theatre Guild presents its IAP production: Urinetown, The Musical, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollman, book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, directed by Kaitlin Burroughs, with vocal direction by Ashley Caval. The show features choreography by Nicole O'Keeffe and orchestra direction by Matthew Putnam. Urinetown plays April 27-29, with performances at 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. on the 29th, and May 3-5 at 8 p.m., at the Kresge Little Theatre, 48 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, Mass.

Mixing equal parts political satire, musical theater history, and farcical comedy, The MIT Musical Theatre Guild’s production of Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution. Set in a town suffering from a 20-year drought that has water scarcity pushed to the breaking point, this production incorporates modern-day elements of the Occupy Wall Street protests to tell a story of what happens when a private corporation controls the public toilets – and how much people will stand for when they aren’t free to pee. Examining not only corporate greed and out-of-control capitalism but also responsible protest, Urinetown is a story about what happens when one man has a vision for change that leads to a revolution – and why getting rid of the bad guys might not always lead to a happy ending.

Tickets are $6 - MIT & Wellesley students, $10 - MIT Community, Seniors, and other students and $15 - General public. Make reservations at http://web.mit.edu/mtg/www/TicketReservations.html
