Margaret Cho To Debut At Provincetown's Art House, 8/11-8/18

Stand-up comedy star Margaret Cho was just nominated for a 2012 prime time Emmy Award as Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for playing Kim Jong II on TV's 30 Rock, and also currently stars on the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva. As of this month, she will also be starring at The Art House in Provincetown for an extended run from August 11th – 18th. For tickets please visit www.ptownarthouse.com or call 508-487-9222.

Margaret Cho's comedy career began auspiciously when she won a comedy contest in which the first prize was opening for Jerry Seinfeld. Soon after, she became the most booked comedy act in the college circuit, earning a nomination as "Comedian of the Year," and played over 300 concerts in her first two years out on the road. This lead to Arsenio Hall introducing her to late night audiences, and Bob Hope putting her on one of his prime time specials. An almost overnight national sensation, she quickly starred in her own, groundbreaking, controversial, and short-lived ABC sitcom, All-American Girl.

A bonafide "Queen of all Media," Margaret Cho has conquered the worlds of film, television, books and theatre. She has two Grammy Award nominations for Best Comedy Album, for Revolution and Cho Dependent. She is a perennial live theater favorite, selling out tours nation-wide, and has had two shows debut Off-Broadway: I'm The One That I Want and The Sensuous Woman. In addition to her 1994 network comedy All American Girl, she starred in one of the first "reality sitcoms" to air on VH1, The Cho Show, and currently stars on the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva, now in its fourth season. The film and DVD releases of her stand up shows have broken records, with I'm The One That I Want holding the title for 'most money grossed per print' for an independent film. Her other releases include Notorious C.H.O, Assassin, Revolution, Beautiful, and Cho Dependent. A bold entrepreneur as well, Cho's Production Company is responsible for the distribution and sales of all of her concert films. Following in the footsteps of music artist Ani DiFranco and her Righteous Babe Records, Margaret's company has consistently sold her concert films directly, including to television outlets such as Showtime Cable Networks.

Along with her many accolades for her entertainment career, Margaret has been widely recognized for her work in the non-profit sector, lending her name, time and tireless work ethic to several charities, especially those involving gay rights and anti-bullying campaigns. She has been honored by GLAAD, American Women in Radio and Television, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, and PFLAG for making a significant difference in promoting equal rights for all, regardless of race, sexual orientation or gender identity. Last summer she was honored by LA Pride with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her lasting impact on the LGBT community. The Art House is honored to welcome this comedy superstar to its stages from August 11th through 18th.
