The greatest family musical of all time, THE WIZARD OF OZ, is coming to Providence, as NETworks Presentations brings what they call a "national treasure" to the Providence Performing Arts Center from February 27 - March 1, 2009.

THE WIZARD OF OZ performance schedule is as follows: Friday, February 27 at 8P; Saturday, February 28 at 2P & 8P; and Sunday, March 1 at 1P & 6:30P. Ticket prices for THE WIZARD OF OZ are $60, $55, $53, $48, $43, $38, and $33; all ticket prices include a $3 per ticket restoration charge. Patrons may purchase tickets at the PPAC Box Office at 220 Weybosset St. in downtown Providence, or by calling (401) 421-ARTS, Monday - Friday from 10A - 5P, and Saturday from 10A - 2P. Patrons may also purchase tickets at www.ppacri.org any time. Discounted admission for THE WIZARD OF OZ is available for groups of 20 or more; for more information, please contact Paul Hiatt at (401) 574-3162, or via email at phiatt@ppacri.org.

Twelve children from the Providence area will be performing the roles of "Munchkins." The group will be chosen immediately following the auditions taking place at PPAC on January 17, 2009 at 10A. Singing songs such as "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead," the local children will participate in the show as part of their continuing performing arts education. Please note that auditioning children must come in groups of twelve from an already existing group such as a dance school, choir, or theatre group - this is not an individual audition. Due to wardrobe limitations, no child may be taller than 5' or weigh more than 100lbs. Pre-registration is required; no registrations will be taken the day of the audition. The deadline for registration is Thursday, January 15th, 2009 at 5P.

For complete rules, restrictions, and registration forms, please visit www.wizardofozontour.com. For more information about the auditions, contact Betty Benedetti at (401) 574-3119 or via email at bbenedetti@ppacri.org

Director Nigel West, choreographer Leigh Constantine and set and costume designer Tim McQuillen-Wright utilize the glamour and elegance of art deco Hollywood as the visually stunning technicolor backdrop for THE WIZARD OF OZ. Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow are transported "Over the Rainbow" to adventures in Munchkin Land, the Haunted Forest, and the Emerald City. This production is based on the Royal Shakespeare Company's celebration of the 1939 MGM movie, and includes composer Harold Arlen's songs, "Over the Rainbow," "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" and "If I Only Had A Brain," along with the familiar characters.

THE WIZARD OF OZ is being produced by NETworks Presentations, LLC. For more information, visit www.networkstours.com.
