US Premiere of THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES Now Playing in Lenox, Mass.

The US premiere of THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, a Sherlock Holmes adaptation, is now playing through November 8th at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox. The show transferred from London's West End for an American premiere at the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre.

The three person cast, featuring Jonathan Croy, Josh Aaron McCabe and Ryan Winkles, is a spoof of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel, with each actor portraying multiple roles. Croy, in his twenty-fourth season with Shakespeare & Co., portrays Doctor John Watson, Holmes' sidekick, while the other two actors split the remaining 15 roles. Croy was featured in Shakespeare & Co.'s production of THE COMPLEAT WORKS OF WLM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED), a spoof similar to THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES.

The production is directed by Shakespeare & Co. founding member Tony Simotes and features a technical team including Set Designer Jim Youngerman, Lighting Designer Steve Ball, Costume Designer Govane Lohbauer, and Sound Designer Michael Pfeiffer. The show is written by Steven Canny (Sony Gold Drama Award for the BBC radio play "Mr. Larkin's Awkward Day") and John Nicholson. The two also scripted the Charles Darwin play ORIGINS, currently playing at the award-winning Pentabus Theatre in Ludlow.

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome hound. The novel was originally serialized in the Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902, and has been adapted on film more than twenty times.

The production runs until November 8th, with performances Thursday through Sunday. Tickets for performances are $16-$48 and may be purchased online at www.ovationtix.com or by calling the Shakespeare & Company box office at 413-637-3353.

Shakespeare & Company is an American theatre company located in Lenox, Massachusetts, founded in 1978 by Artistic Director Tina Packer and Kristin Linklater, who developed the Linklater vocal technique and left the company in the mid-1990s. The company performs Shakespeare and new plays of "social and political significance", reaching over 75,000 patrons annually, and it conducts training programs for professional classical actors as well as education programs for elementary through high school students, the latter reaching over 50,000 students annually.
