Yale Summer Cabaret continues its 2007 season with Eye, which will be presented from July 18th through 28th.

"Monsters, lovers, heroes and misfits cross paths in this highly physical mask performance piece created and directed by Yale School of Drama acting student Alex Knox.  The fast paced, funny and often touching new work will leave audiences wondering, 'Did I just see what I think I saw?,'" as described in press notes.  "Knox's mask creation stems from an undergraduate movement class after a teacher noticed sketches alongside his class notes, 'I realized the potential of creating my own masks: any bizarre creature that found its way into the side margins of my homework could truly come to life as a walking, breathing character on stage.'"

The production will also feature Nikki Berger (The Seagull, The Lacy Project, Titus Andronicus, etc. at Yale School of Drama; Under Milkwood and The Threepenny Opera at Williamstown), Carter Gill (Camino Real and Journey to Santiago at YSD, The Merchant of Venice at Colorado Shakespeare Festival, God is a DJ at Summer Cabaret), Brian Hastert (Camino Real, Drop Dead, Matthew Moses at YSD, co-founder of NYC theatre company The TEAM), Erica Sullivan (God is a DJ at Summer Cabaret, Lulu at Yale Rep, Camino Real, etc. at YSD, PT Anderson's film There Will Be Blood).

Knox just completed his first year in the acting department at the Yale School of Drama, where he's appeared as John in Speaking Our Mind (Carlotta Festival), Lord Byron in Camino Real (YSD), and Matamore in The Illusion (Yale Cabaret).  In addition to acting, Knox is a visual artist. His show Eye was born out of the idea to bring his surreal, cartoon-like drawings to the stage, in the form of masks.  In preparation for Eye (which began as a Senior Honors project at UC Santa Barbara), Alex taught himself how to make masks and created over a dozen unique designs.  This summer, Knox is excited to build on the original production and utilize the talents of a talented new team of YSD performers, designers, and producers.  Heholds a BFA in Acting from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  His MFA in Acting is expected for 2009.

The production will feature lighting design by Burke Brown and sound design by Ben Strange, with Jacob Padrón and Stephanie Ybarra as Line Producers.

Eye runs: Wednesday, July 18 at 8:00pm, Thursday, July 19 at 8:00pm, Friday, July 20 at 8:00pm, Saturday, July 21 at 8:00pm, Wednesday, July 25 at 8:00pm, Thursday, July 26 at 8:00pm, Friday, July 27 at 8:00pm and Saturday, July 28 at 8:00pm.

Single tickets range from $14 - $25. Membership and group discounts available. Buy tickets online at www.summercabaret.org or by calling 203.432.1567.

Doors open at 6:00 for dinner by Chef Anna from Anna's on Orange Street. All performances take place at 217 Park Street between Chapel and Edgewood streets in downtown New Haven.
