Over 500 guests honored Wimberly Award recipients Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Tony and Grammy Award winner Billy Porter, while raising over $1,000,000 (with additional gifts still coming in) to support the Huntington and its programs, including its renowned education and community initiatives at the Spotlight Spectacular on Monday, April 24. SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE opens the Huntington Theatre Company's 2016-2017 season. Directed by Artistic Director Peter DuBois, with Music Direction by Eric Stern, it features a large and talented ensemble with a mix of Boston theater artists and those with Broadway credits. Jenni Barber is a delight as Dot/Marie, but Adam Chanler-Berat does not match her intensity as George. The production looks great, sounds good, but feels less filling than a Sondheim show should.

BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY defends the thesis that storytelling and making theater may be of great value in times of crisis, but goes awry with its repetitious retelling of an episode of THE SIMPSONS. Director A. Nora Long, a creative design team, and strong acting performances are not enough to put a charge in playwright Anne Washburn's work.
