Little Music School (LMS) students, ages 18 months to 6 years old, will perform piano recitals on Sunday, January 27 at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA). Performances will be held in the FSPA Recital Hall at 38 Main Street in Franklin and are free and open to the public.
LMS recitals celebrate the musical achievements and development of these youngest learners. Students become more comfortable performing in front of an audience and benefit from the exposure to live music created by their peers. They learn what is expected of them as audience members, too.
"The Little Music School recitals are a fun way for us to share a little bit of what we do in class each week," notes Kim Rezendes, LMS Director. "It's wonderful to see the look of pride and excitement on our students' faces and to observe their progress on so many levels."
Created at FSPA in 2005, the Little Music School is an innovative program that teaches children as early as eighteen months to play the piano. The LMS curriculum engages children in singing and playing the piano, creative movement, games and imaginative play. The program fosters an appreciation of music and establishes a foundation of musical understanding and skills in ear training, sight singing, rhythm and note reading. Rezendes introduced the LMS curriculum to children and educators in Hong Kong last January and brought the LMS program to downtown Hudson in September, when FSPA opened its first satellite location in the historic Odd Fellows Building.
